Mostly about how pubs get on the site, who pays for what, and what happens when something here is wrong. If your question is not below, ask it.
How does a pub get featured on Crafted Compass?
I go to it. Pubs end up here because I happened to be in the town, because somebody recommended one, or because a place has a reputation worth testing. There is no application process and no list to get onto. If a pub is good and I get to it, it gets a page.
Can a pub ask to be reviewed?
You can suggest one, and landlords are welcome to. It does not move you up any queue and it does not guarantee a visit or a good write up. I visit unannounced and pay my own way, so a request is a tip off rather than an arrangement. If I do come, you will not know until the page appears.
Do you take payment, free drinks or free meals?
No. There is no advertising on this site, no affiliate links, no sponsored posts and no paid placement, and nothing on any page earns money if you click it. Free drinks and meals are declined; if something arrives on the house it gets paid for anyway. That is the whole reason the reviews are worth reading.
How do I suggest a pub?
Use the contact form and tell me the name, the town and what makes it worth the trip. The more specific the better: a well kept cask ale, a proper fire, a landlord who has been there thirty years. Recommendations from people who actually drink somewhere are how most of the good ones get found.
Something on a page is wrong. How do corrections work?
Tell me and I will fix it. Factual errors are corrected as soon as I know about them and the page gets an updated date. Pubs change hands and kitchens close, so if a review has gone out of date I will revisit or mark the page. Where a pub disagrees about a matter of opinion rather than fact, the review stands.
Does an event need a fixed date to be listed?
No. Plenty of the events here are write ups of festivals and markets I have been to, where the point is what it was like rather than when the next one is. If an event does have confirmed dates, the page shows them and search engines are told about them. If it does not, the page still works and simply reads as a write up.
Why is my town not on the site?
Because I have not been yet. The site covers where I have actually drunk, which is a particular and uneven slice of Britain and Ireland rather than a national directory. Locations get added as I get to them, and a good recommendation is the fastest way to move one up the list.
